orking with the government as a Registrant with the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC), and recognized as an Industrial Energy Innovator with Natural Resources Canada, Almag and many other companies have made a commitment to initiating energy saving improvements throughout production facilities and we urge others to follow suit.

Environmental directives such as LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) are gaining momentum in becoming the norm rather than the exception for many of our Customers. Availability of quality, recycled aluminum extrusions and managing our process responsibly is important for these guidelines. Upgrades to our production facility and offices have been on-going over the past couple of years. Three of the largest projects include:

Retro-fitting our lighting system

We have recently finished retrofitting our metal halide light fixtures with T* fluorescent fixtures, drastically reducing wattage from 465 watts to 215 watts. Hydro One Brampton, in working with Natural Resources Canada, has offered incentives to companies investing in energy conservation. Recent changes will lead to a 53.7% decrease in power consumption from lighting. Based on expected savings in hydro usage, payback for the start up costs is roughly 18 months and 10's of thousands of dollars in savings each year there after. It is truly worth the effort to investigate energy conserving opportunities.

Shifting from a fixed drive air compressor to a variable-speed drive air compressor leading to substantial savings on annual energy consumption

Other Almag activities:

Scrap material from our process is sent for recycling including mill end cuts and saw chips
Active employee recycling program with receptacles in many locations throughout the plant and offices
Education with respect to the benefits of recycling and how we can contribute

It's not about what Almag does that others don't — it's about all of us looking for opportunities and making choices that can make a difference. Almag will continue to look for improvements throughout our facility and our process not only to work smarter, but cleaner as well.
